Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam born on 15th of October 1931 was an Indian aerospace scientist, teacher, Bharat Ratna awardee, 11th President, and the great missile man of India. He was born and raised in the pilgrimage town of Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. Kalam inherited honesty, innate wisdom and self-discipline from his father Jainulabdeen, and goodness and kindness from his mother Ashiamma. He graduated from the Madras Institute of Technology and joined as a scientist at the Aeronautical Development Service. Kalam was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization in 1969.

Despite several hardships in his childhood, being humiliated at school and working part-time to sell newspapers and adding income to his family, he did not give up easily. Kalam became the 11th president of India on July 25, 2002. He was such an inspiring person, who interacted with people and was lovingly called as ‘The people’s president’. Later he visited IIM Ahmedabad, Indore, Shillong, and Anna University as a professor. He was awarded the prestigious Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibushan, and Padma Bhushan from the Government of India.

On July 27, 2015, Kalam in his lecture at IIM Shillong felt discomfort and passed away. He forever lasts in our hearts and his quotes consistently inspire each and everyone. His life story teaches everyone ‘how to be a successful person’. Kalam being very simple and secular, his intellectual personality, knowledge, passion, dreams, talents and the way he inspires youth, and his immense contribution for India’s development makes him stay in our hearts forever.
